The pro-CPI (M) Tripura Government Teachers Association (HB Road) have strongly protested the denial of police permission to hold their planned procession and rally yesterday in Agartala town. What emerged from the media interaction is that the teachers outfit had sought permission from police to hold a procession and a road-side meeting yesterday to press for a 9-point charter of demands in the interest of teachers and the community of employees at large. The 9-pint demands of TGTA include the payment of outstanding 22% of dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) of the serving and retired teachers and employees and formation of the 8th pay commission for upgradation of pay and allowances of teachers and employees. “It seems the state police here have taken a cue from the Mamata led Trinamool government of West Bengal which always create obstaclkes in the way of organizational programmes of opposition parties by denying permission; we had applied for permission for our rally well in advance but police started dithering over the issue and then we also informed them of our preparedness to change routes but even thereafter permission was denied; how can this happen in a democracy without conspiracy of the ruling party; long seven years have passed and such tactics will not be accepted by the people, teachers and employees” said Asish Chowdhury , general secretary of TGTA.
The president of TGTA (HB Road) Ranjit Rudrapaul also addressed the interaction with the media and said that unless the outstanding 22% DA was cleared by October 31 this year the 16the finance commission will never reimburse this and deprivation of teachers and employees will continue. He also debunked the claims of the state government over having implemented the recommendations of the 7th central pay commission. “This claim is wrong on many counts : according the recommendations of the 7th central pay commission the central employees receive gratuity of Rs 20 lakhs upon retirement but the state’s retirees get only Rs 10 lakhs; as per the same recommendations the full pension benefits to central employees and officers are given at the end of 20 years while in the state the same is given only after twenty five years; there is also great anomaly in house rent payment as the central employees get house-rent at the rate of 10% of the basic while in states the employees get only a maximum of Rs 3 thousand per month’; even in the matter of fitment the deprivation is acute as the left front had given 2.25% of fitment with basic but the present government increased it by only .32% and all the employees did not get this” said Ranjit Rudrapaul.
He added that besides payment of outstanding 22% of DA and formation of 8th pay commission, the seven other demands of the TGTA include regularization service of all new TET teachers from the very beginning with full payscale, revocation of NPS and UPS and reintroduction of old pension system, appointment of sports teacher in every school and reinstatement of illegally retrenched 10,323 teachers. Ranjit asserted that the TGTA (HB Road) will soon announce a new round of agitational programme to press for their demands.
