Tripura BJP’s Janajati Morcha leaders have held a crucial meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi ahead of the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

The meeting took place inside the Parliament complex where the delegation, led by BJP Tripura Pradesh President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, apprised the central leaders about the political and social situation in the state. BJP North East Coordinator Sambit Patra, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Industries Minister Santana Chakma, MLA Ram Pada Jamatia and MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma were also part of the delegation.

Party sources informed that the Union Home Minister listened carefully to the issues raised by the leaders and assured them that the Centre would take all necessary steps to strengthen peace and development in Tripura.

The meeting holds political importance as the BJP faces growing challenges in the tribal areas of the state, particularly from its coalition partner Tipra Motha Party (TMP). Though both parties share power in the state government, relations have been strained over several issues. A section of TMP leaders, including a former militant-turned-MLA, have reportedly issued warnings of withdrawing support.

Meanwhile, in tribal strongholds, political violence has increased with BJP workers allegedly coming under attack from TMP supporters. Within the TTAADC, BJP-elected members continue to remain in opposition as they have refused to share power with TMP.

With the elections drawing near, the BJP’s outreach to central leadership is seen as a strategy to consolidate its support base in the tribal regions and prepare the ground for a tough electoral contest.
