The cacophony of tall claims to massive infrastructural development all over the state notwithstanding, people continue to suffer from and protest against lack of basic amenities like proper roads, water supply and electricity connection. In Surjya Sen para area in Purba Aralia village under the Pratapgarh assembly constituency , southeast of Agartala, members of at least twenty five families came out in the open protesting against absence of any proper road , water supply and electricity connection in their area. The resorted to slogan shouting and told their tales of woes to media persons that despite making repeated demands and appeals their area has been languishing in total neglect.

Similarly , altogether 18 families in Khamarbari area under Aralia panchayat in Charilam block have been passing days without water supply for the past one month simply because the water supply and lifting machine has gone out of order. This has happened because the submersible machine for water in the area went out of order about a month ago and this is yet to be repaired or replaced by the technicians of the water resource department. Manik Mia (46), a resident of the village , spoke to media persons this morning in the Charilam market expressing his resentment over the failure of the governmental authority to repair or replace the submersible. “We now have to collect contaminated water from a far-off source and this has also been affecting the health of people but nothing is being done to help us have access to water yielded by the submersible machine” said Manik Mia. A few days ago the staff of water resource department took away the out-of-order submersible and but they have not yer reinstalled it.

Meanwhile , in another incident people in Ward no-13 of Kumarghat Nagar Panchayat in north Tripura yesterday started repairing their all important in front of the Kalyan Ashram on their own after being frustrated by the failure of the Nagar Panchayat authority to repair the same in spite of repeated appeals and complaints. The road had been in an extremely poor state and had become virtually unusable but Nagar Panchayt did nothing. Yesterday a large number of able-bodies people of the Ward no-12 started repair work on the road on their own. Sources from Kumarghat said that while working on road repair the people are seething with anger.
