The Bangladeshi thieves , dacoits and other categories of criminals have become active again along the border with India , seemingly taking advantage of the lax border vigil by the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans. In the latest incident of such border transgressions a gang of Bangladesh dacoits had managed to sneak into Indian village of Ramendra Nagar under Manu Bazar police station in Sabroom subdivision by cutting off border fencing and made away with two milch cows. These cows belonged to as many families who depended on them for sustenance by selling milk . Sources from Sabroom said that the dacoits had broken into Indian territory by cutting fencing on the boder and then sent the stolen cows across the overflowing Pheni river.
The incident of dacoity came to light this morning and the owners of the cows broke down in tears . Sources said that the spot of break-in by the Bangladeshi dacoits is only 50 metres away from the BSF’s watch tower and there is also a thirty feet high watch tower near the spot of dacoity and the entire border including the Bangladesh side is visible from there. It should have been easy for the on-duty BSF jawans to spot the gang of dacoits but the jawans and officers of the 121 battalion posted there have always been lackadaisical in their duties and even at night they spend time by sleeping, leaving bordering Indians unprotected.
There is a fear growing among the people living along the border that if the Bangladeshi dacoits can get away with lifted cattles , they may very well come in higher strength and commit dacoities on household in a bigger volume and even kill people. The local people suspect that a gang of local criminals may be working in collaboration with the Bangladeshi criminals.
