A newly married couple tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Sunday, shortly after offering prayers at the famous Kasbeswari Temple in Kamalasagar. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over their families and the local community.
According to police and family members, Dibakar Ghosh, an employee of Tripura Gramin Bank posted in Belonia, had visited the temple along with his wife Priyanka Ghosh, his parents and an aunt. After completing the rituals, Dibakar told his parents to return home in a separate vehicle, while he and his wife planned to stop at the Bishalgarh boat ghat before heading back. The couple left on a scooter bearing registration number TR01-AW-9205.
As Dibakar’s parents were following them, they came across a crowd near the TSR camp at Gokulnagar and soon discovered the couple lying on the road in a severely injured state. TSR jawans rushed Dibakar to Agartala’s GBP Hospital, while Priyanka was taken to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Hospital. Doctors at both hospitals declared the two dead on arrival.
Dibakar was the only son of his parents, while Priyanka was the only daughter in her family. Their sudden deaths have devastated both households. Relatives said the couple had married recently and were just beginning their life together.
Local residents expressed deep sorrow at the tragedy, describing it as an irreparable loss for the two families. Police from Bishalgarh station reached the hospital soon after the accident was reported and have begun inquiries into the circumstances of the crash.
The double tragedy has left the entire Bishalgarh–Kamalasagar area in shock, with neighbours and friends mourning the untimely demise of the young couple.
