The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura has officially expelled Manna Dey, President of the party’s Yuva Morcha in Khayerpur Mandal, after internal disputes within the unit came under sharp public focus. The decision, made earlier this year on May 24, was made public on Sunday amid rising speculation of factionalism.
According to the expulsion order issued by the BJP Tripura State Executive Committee, Dey was permanently removed from his post for repeatedly violating the party’s code of conduct. The letter stated that several controversial videos circulated on social media had seriously harmed the image of the party and were deemed “damaging to the dignity, credibility, and discipline of the organisation.” Despite earlier warnings to correct his behaviour, Dey allegedly continued activities considered unacceptable by the leadership.
The order, signed by State General Secretary Amit Rakshit, confirmed that Dey has been stripped of all positions and responsibilities within the party and barred from using its name, symbols, or participating in organisational work in the future.
The developments came against the backdrop of an audio clip that went viral, further fuelling the internal rift in Khayerpur BJP. In the clip, a local Panchayat Pradhan, Debjani Chowdhury, was heard levelling multiple allegations against Dey and some other party workers during a phone conversation. The recording also contained remarks about local MLA Ratan Chakraborty. After the clip spread widely on social media, Chowdhury later issued a public apology.
The episode has once again brought the Khayerpur Mandal unit of the BJP under scrutiny, highlighting the growing cracks within the organisation at the local level.
