The Election Department, Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura, has issued a show cause notice to the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT), citing its prolonged inactivity in electoral participation. The notice, dated August 13, 2025, references provisions under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which governs the registration of political parties in India.

According to the Commission’s records, the INPT has not fielded any candidates in elections to the House of the People, the Tripura Legislative Assembly, or in any bye-elections for the past six years since 2019. This prolonged absence from the electoral process has prompted the Election Commission to consider delisting the party from the official list of registered political parties.

The Commission, exercising its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution of India and Section 29A of the Act, has proposed the removal of the INPT’s registration. However, before taking final action, the party has been given an opportunity to submit a written representation explaining why it should not be delisted.

The deadline for submitting the representation, accompanied by an affidavit from the party’s President or General Secretary and relevant supporting documents, is August 28, 2025 (FN). A hearing has been scheduled on the same date at 3:00 PM at the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Tripura, Agartala. The presence of the party’s President, General Secretary, or head of the party is mandatory.

The notice further states that if no response is received by the deadline, it will be assumed that the INPT has no objection, and appropriate action will be taken without further communication.

The show cause notice was addressed to the President/General Secretary of the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra at its office in Abhoynagar, Agartala.
