Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday said Tripura has emerged as one of India’s safest states, with crime rates far below the national average. Speaking at the Independence Day celebration at Assam Rifles ground, he cited official data showing the state ranks third from the bottom among 28 states, with 110 cases per lakh population compared to the national average of 422. Crimes against women stand at 37 per lakh, against the national average of 66.

The overall crime rate dropped by 19.4% in 2024 compared to 2023, and by a further 12.35% in the first five months of 2025. Women’s safety measures include 24x7 help desks and helpline 1091 in all police stations, and dedicated women’s police stations in each district. In 2024, police held 9,735 “Prayas” outreach programmes involving over two lakh citizens.

On drug control, seizures rose by 106% and registered cases by 132% under the government’s zero-tolerance policy. Strict border surveillance, cybercrime monitoring, and freezing of offenders’ bank accounts have been intensified.

Social welfare initiatives include the Tripura State Policy for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, 88 new Anganwadi centres, Rs 826 crore in pensions, and new hostels for working women. Dr Saha credited these achievements to collective efforts across the state.
