District Magistrate of Gomati, Rinku Lather, IAS, has hailed the ‘Nistha Niketan’ honesty based rural market in Amarpur RD Block as a potential model for the entire country. During his visit yesterday, he lauded the initiative’s trust driven system where buyers pay without supervision, ensuring fair returns to women farmers and promoting organic produce.
The initiative has also attracted national media coverage, including Global Governance News, Asia’s first bilingual global policy initiative and media platform, which promotes best practices and innovative schemes. Its recognition underscores ‘Nistha Niketan’ as a noteworthy example of sustainable, community driven rural development.
Operating without shopkeepers or surveillance, the market sells produce from farmers and self-help groups at fixed prices. Buyers deposit payments in a collection box, and the amount is directly handed to suppliers daily.
During the visit, the DM also reviewed government schemes, inspected Rajkang Village Council, Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Mokraibari AWC, and Jeevan Mati IFC, and praised Amarpur’s panchayat level record management as a model for digitisation across Tripura. He urged wider promotion of ‘Nistha Niketan’ and suggested integrating TRLM initiatives with panchayat ventures for rural women’s sustainability.
