The Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Dr Krishan Kumar, undertook an extensive inspection of several highway stretches across Tripura on Monday to assess their condition and review ongoing repair works.
His visit covered NH-108B (Agartala–Khowai), NH-208 (Khowai–Kailashahar), NH-208A (Kailashahar–Kurti), and NH-08 (Churaibari–Agartala). Officials said the inspection aimed to evaluate construction quality, track the progress of projects, and hold contractors accountable for deficiencies. A formal report of the findings will be sent to the Union Minister for further action.
Accompanied by PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, senior engineers, Khowai District Magistrate Rajat Panth, and NHIDCL representatives, Dr Kumar also visited severely damaged portions of NH-208 between Khowai and Kamalpur, where large potholes and surface settlements have made travel hazardous. Notably, the route has deteriorated significantly within just two years of construction.
Earlier in the day, Dr Kumar chaired a virtual meeting from Agartala with officials from various districts. He is expected to lead another round of deliberations in the state capital on Tuesday to chart a plan for urgent repairs and long-term maintenance of Tripura’s national highways.
