Tripura has received Rs. 32.30 crore under the Khelo India Scheme for the development of sports infrastructure, according to official state and UT-wise data released by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
In the northeastern region, allocations vary widely. Arunachal Pradesh leads the region with Rs. 148.91 crore, one of the highest in the north east states. Manipur has been granted Rs.46.71 crore, Nagaland Rs. 45.75 crore, and Assam Rs. 43.68 crore. Tripura’s allocation is slightly higher than Mizoram’s Rs. 31.73 crore and significantly above Meghalaya’s Rs. 15.28 crore and Sikkim’s Rs. 24.64 crore.
When compared nationally, Uttar Pradesh tops the list with Rs. 438.27 crore, followed by Gujarat with Rs. 426.13 crore, making them the biggest beneficiaries. In contrast, most northeastern states, despite their sporting potential and history of producing Olympians, have received far lower amounts.
The funding aims to boost grassroots and competitive sports infrastructure ahead of major global events like the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Australia, and the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
