Theft goes berserk in Khowai subdivision , burglar partakes of rice, fish curry by breaking into kitchen of house-holder

Crimes of all sorts have registered a steep rise across the state over the past seven years . But theft or burglary, almost a regular event now, have started taking bizarre forms in certain incidents. In a bizarre incident of theft in the residence of Ajit Majhidas in Purba Ganki village under Khowai subdivision thieves last night broke into the kitchen and ate up rice and fish curry kept in the small fridge and made off with the rice container, bowel, utensils, water jar and mug . Sources from the locality said that the nature of the theft shows growing poverty and food crisis among people.

But there were thefts in two other houses in Purba Ganki area . In theft in the residence of Ranjit Shuklabaidya who with his family members had gone away with members of his family, leaving the house unguarded. A few thieves broke into his house and safely went away with 20 kgs of rice, 10 kgs of ‘Atta’, table fan and utensils kept in the house. The gang of thieves also broke into the grocery shop of Nantu Roy in the same area and made off with a sack of pulses, ‘Sabu’, ‘Maida’, ‘Suji;. Molasses and packets of ‘Bidis’.

Sources from the Purba Ganki village said that a deep sense of insecurity has gripped the villagers and they are now planning to guard the locality with groups of villagers by turn. Even though a police complaint has been filed the inhabitants of the area do not expect any meaningful action on the part of police to nab the culprits or give them security.
