In a major mishap that could turn out to be fatal for all the members an entire family survived the blast of a gas cylinder while cooking ‘Prasadam’ for ‘Bipad Nashini Puja’. The accident happened in Aralia Ramthakur Sangha area this morning. Sources from the locality said that the family members of local resident Chandra Nath Ghosh had prepared to organise ‘Bipad Nashini Puja’ (Hindu Goddess for immunity from danger) and cooking of ‘Prasadam’ had been on a gas oven. But when the cooking was on the pipe attached to the cylinder suddenly burst out and the resultant fire spread in the kitchen and also partly in the nearby room. A number of furnitures and other items of domestic use caught fire.

The family head Chandra Nath Ghosh , his wife Minati Ghosh and children started shouting for help and people from the neighbourhood rushed in and started dousing the fire with water brought from a nearby pond and tube well. The fire tenders who had been informed duly took time to reach the affected house because of the congested condition of the road but ultimately the gas-induced fire was brought under control by local people. Going by the rapid escalation of the fire it was sure that some family members also might have died but this did not happen because of the united effort of the neighbours.

The fire tender officers later said that congestion of roads due to unauthorized encroachment often create problems for them in reaching fire-sites and these encroachments should be removed without any further delay. They however thanked the local people for working in right earnest for extinguishing the fire.
