An expert team led by TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu visited the Dumboor Hydel Project site and held two rounds of meetings at the Jatanbari Revenue Dakbungalow to assess the feasibility of restoring Tripura’s only hydropower project, which has remained non-functional since the 2024 floods.
The team included TSECL officials Manoj Debbarma, Tapan Majumdar, Binimoy Chakraborty, and Manoj Dewan, along with technical experts from NHPC and BHEL. They examined the damage caused when floodwaters inundated the power station, halting operations.
Officials highlighted the high cost of gas-based power generation and stressed the need to revive the hydel project. Experts concluded that a complete overhaul of the outdated infrastructure is essential, including the installation of new turbines and modern machinery.
The inspection report will be forwarded through official channels before reaching the Power Department and the Power Minister for final decision.
