Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s firm decisions in response to the tragic death of a truck driver at Chakmaghat under Teliamura Sub-Division on August 5, have drawn widespread appreciation across social media platforms and political circles. The Chief Minister’s strong action against administrative failure, including the suspension of SDM Teliamura Parimal Majumder, initiation of a high-level enquiry, and disciplinary notices to officials in the Fire & Emergency Services and Khowai District Magistrate Rajat Panth, IAS is being hailed as a clear message of zero tolerance towards negligence.
Sources close to the Chief Minister's Office confirmed that Dr. Saha wanted to send a strong and befitting message to those attempting to defame the administrative integrity of his government. By directly addressing the lapses of officials including the District Magistrate of Khowai, fire service officers, and suspending the SDM of Teliamura, the Chief Minister has underlined his commitment to accountability and responsible governance.
“This action is not just about punishing a few officers; it is about making it clear that no officer, regardless of rank, will be spared if found guilty of neglecting their duty,” a senior official remarked.
The Chief Minister’s swift response has triggered positive reactions across all sections of society, particularly among social media users in Tripura, who have praised the move as decisive and timely. Several citizens wrote on social media that the move has “restored public faith in the administration” and described Dr. Saha as a leader who acts, not just speaks.
The actions taken have been welcomed across party lines, with many political observers noting that opposition parties have avoided criticizing the move, acknowledging the seriousness of the incident and the appropriateness of the response. This rare moment of political consensus has added to the credibility of Dr. Saha’s decision.
Notably, a high-level enquiry committee has been constituted with the Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey, IAS as Chair, and the Secretary of Fire & Emergency Services and IG (Law & Order) as members.
It is also reported that the District Magistrate of Khowai has been directed to submit an immediate explanation for any lapses. And disciplinary notices have been issued to the Divisional Fire Officer (West Tripura) and the Teliamura Fire Station Officer-in-Charge for reported failure in emergency response.
Parimal Majumder, SDM Teliamura, has been suspended immediately, and Abhedananda Baidya, ADM Khowai, has taken over the additional charge.
This incident and the government’s response are being viewed as a turning point in administrative governance in Tripura, with the Chief Minister making it clear that non-performance, negligence, or complacency will face strict consequences.
