State Government Acts Swiftly on Chakmaghat Tragedy: CM Dr. Manik Saha Announces Probe, SDM Suspended

In the wake of the tragic death of Mihirlal Debnath, a truck driver who lost his life yesterday in Chakmaghat under Teliamura subdivision, the State Government has taken immediate and decisive action. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, announcing the same in his facebook page this evening, outlined a series of urgent steps aimed at ensuring justice and accountability.
According to Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha’s announcement, a three-member inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the incident. The committee will be headed by the Secretary of Revenue (Relief, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management) Brijesh Pandey and will submit its findings within a stipulated timeframe.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Teliamura Parimal Majumder has been placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the investigation. And a show-cause notice has been served to the District Magistrate & Collector Shri Rajat Panth, IAS of Khowai district, seeking an explanation regarding administrative lapses connected to the incident.
The family of the deceased has been granted a total financial assistance of Rs. 6 lakh comprising Rs. 4 lakh from the Disaster Management Fund and an additional Rs. 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
To express solidarity and extend condolences on behalf of the State Government, Shri Tinku Roy, Minister for Social Welfare & Social Education, and Smt. Santana Chakma, Minister for Industry & Commerce, will visit the residence of the deceased Mihirlal Debnath.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said "We remain firmly committed to justice and to upholding the people’s faith in our government".
