Tension Flares in Bishramganj After Bus Attacked, Passengers Injured

Tension gripped the Bishramganj motor stand area on Monday evening after a group of individuals allegedly vandalised a passenger bus and physically assaulted several passengers.

The incident occurred when a bus travelling from Agartala to Sonamura reached the Bishramganj stand. During the journey, a female passenger reportedly alleged that she was touched inappropriately by someone inside the vehicle but was unable to identify the person. Following this, a group of people—suspected to be Tipra Motha supporters—intercepted the bus at Bishramganj.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the group was already waiting at the location and launched a sudden attack on the bus, smashing windows and physically assaulting multiple passengers, including a minor girl. The bus sustained significant damage during the attack.

The situation prompted swift police action, with Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma rushing to the spot to bring the situation under control. Injured passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment, and the bus was brought to Bishramganj police station.

Locals expressed concern that the incident might have been pre-planned to provoke tension in the area. Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
