The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Sepahijala, Tanushree Debnath, sentenced two men—Sabujur Rahman and Ali Ahmed—to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in a dacoity case. Each was also fined Rs 50,000, failing which they would serve an additional six months in prison.
According to Public Prosecutor Chanchal Roy Choudhury, the two men visited Pulak Pal’s home in Tarapukur on October 8, 2023, pretending to be interested in buying land. After being turned away, they returned the same evening. Hours later, around 12:15 AM on October 9, Pulak Pal’s house was broken into. The robbers tried to attack him with sharp weapons, looted over Rs 1 lakh and gold jewellery from his wife. They also raided a neighbour’s home and fled with cash, gold ornaments, and mobile phones.
Both accused were later identified and arrested. The case was investigated by SI Jagbandhu Debnath under then OC Paritosh Das. A chargesheet was submitted on July 31, 2024, with eight witnesses examined. Based on strong evidence and testimonies, the court found the duo guilty and held them responsible for orchestrating the crime under the false pretext of a land deal.
