In a move to bring better regulation and discipline to urban transport, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), in coordination with the Transport Department of Tripura, has issued a directive requiring all metered autos and e-auto rickshaws operating within Agartala city limits to paint the front portion of their vehicles in pink (gulabi) color. The last date for compliance has been set as August 25, 2025.
The directive aims to improve visibility and identification of legitimate metered and e-auto rickshaws operating within the city. This color-coding measure will assist passengers, law enforcement, and transport officials in easily distinguishing authorized vehicles.
In a related development, the Transport Department has also issued an additional notification to regulate auto movements from outside city limits. According to the new rule, any auto entering Agartala with reserved (hired) passengers from outside the municipal area will not be allowed to pick up new passengers within the city on a return trip. Once the drop-off is completed, such autos must leave the city without accepting further passengers from within Agartala.
This regulation is designed to discourage unauthorized competition with city-based autos and to ensure that proper permits and zones are respected by auto operators.
Officials from the Agartala Municipal Corporation and the Transport Department have confirmed that strict action will be taken against violators, which may include fines, permit cancellation, or vehicle seizure.
Auto owners and drivers are urged to comply promptly with both directives to avoid penalties and help maintain order in the city’s public transport system.
