In a powerful show of public unity and determination, a massive anti-drug and anti-cannabis cultivation rally and protest mass meeting was held yesterday evening at Ishan Chandra Nagar under the Suryamaninagar Assembly constituency. The event, attended by hundreds of local residents, was led by Deputy Speaker and MLA of the constituency, Shri Ram Prasad Pal.
The rally, which reverberated with slogans against narcotics, marked a significant step in the ongoing grassroots movement against drug abuse and illegal drug cultivation in the area. Local shops, auto-rickshaw drivers, school students, working women, and residents came together in one voice to declare: “Addiction means destruction, awareness means freedom.” “A house that harbors addiction is a house drowned in darkness.”
In his address during the meeting, Shri Ram Prasad Pal asserted that the anti-drug campaign in Suryamaninagar has been gaining strong momentum. “Almost every week, people in different parts of this constituency are launching awareness rallies,” he said. “These movements are not symbolic anymore; they are people’s revolution. In many places, locals themselves are arresting drug peddlers and handing them over to the police. The drug mafias are extremely terrified.”
He further declared that once drug activities are completely wiped out from his constituency, he will expand this successful anti-drug awareness campaign to bordering and other vulnerable areas across Tripura.
“This is no longer a one-day campaign,” said Shri Pal. “This is a fight for survival, a revolution for the future.”
He issued a stern warning to drug peddlers saying that “No matter how big the drug dealer is, there will be no escape now.”
Yesterday, Ishan Chandra Nagar set a new standard. Tomorrow, the movement will spread across Tripura. When people take to the streets against drugs, victory is inevitable.
The growing people-led movement in Suryamaninagar is rapidly becoming a model for community-based drug eradication in Tripura, signaling a shift in how the menace of drugs is being tackled—by the people, for the people.
