An uneasy lull has been reported from tribal dominated Jampui Jala subdivisional headquarter following yesterday’s attacks on BJP workers and supporters by hooligans operating under the banner of ‘Tipra Motha’. One injured BJP ‘Jana Jati Morcha’ worker Raju Debbarma is still under treatment in Agartala’s GBP hospital for injuries inflicted on him by the hoodlums of ‘Tipra Motha’ during the attack yesterday. A formal FIR has been filed with the Takarjala police station against 8/9 identified attackers of ‘Tipra Motha’ and police is on the look out for arresting them but all the FIR named accused persons are absconding. Police sources said that security has been tightened all over the Jampui Jala subdivision to forestall any more violent attacks by the ‘Tipra Motha’ miscreants.

Sources said that as part of a decision taken by BJP and its tribal front organization the ‘Jana Jati Morcha’ to hold rallies in ADC areas, a meeting was scheduled to come off at Jampui Jala yesterday as it was the market day. But a large group of ‘Tipra Motha’ miscreants had gathered near the meeting place and launched unprovoked attacks on BJP supporters and workers soon after the ‘Jana Jati Morcha’ general secretary Bipin Debbarma and Takarjal ‘Mandal’ president Nirmal Debbarma had reached the place. Even though Bipin and Nirmal were spared by the ‘Motha’ hooligans, at least 8/10 party workers and supporters of BJP sustained injuries. As all this happened the local ‘Tipra Motha’ MLA Biswajit Koloi stood by and continued to provoke the miscreants affiliated with his party. A similar attack had taken place on last Sunday in Tulasikhar under Asharambari assembly constituency as the divisive ‘Tipra Motha’ has been working on a plan to block entry of other parties in the ADC areas.

The ‘Jana Jati Morcha’ general secretary Bipin Debbarma and Takarjal ‘Mandal’ president Nirmal Debbarma condemned the ‘politics of goonery’ of ‘Tipra Motha’ and said that all political parties have a constitutional right to launch campaign and mobilize people in the ADC area which is not an exclusive preserve of just one party. “This mischievous tactics of ‘Tipra Motha’ to cover up their failure by goonery and block other parties from coming to ADC areas and holding programmes will be politically resisted ; the people of ADC areas will not tolerate these acts of goonery and thuggery” said Bipin Debbarma.
