A tense situation unfolded at Ramthakur College today after a large delegation of BJP Mandal leaders from Badharghat, Bardowali, and Suryamaninagar assembly constituencies went to meet the college principal, Dr. Papri Das Sengupta, regarding the admission status of over 400 students from their areas who recently passed the Higher Secondary examinations. These students had applied online through the Samarth portal under the Department of Higher Education, expressing their desire to study at Ramthakur College. However, the delay in confirmation of admissions led to growing anxiety among the aspirants and their families.Amidst this uncertainty, local BJP Mandal representatives attempted to meet the principal to discuss the issue. But due to the sudden arrival of such a large group without prior appointment, Principal Das Sengupta declined to meet them immediately, citing security concerns. This led to a brief moment of commotion within the college premises, prompting the principal to call the police.

The situation was brought under control after the arrival of the police from AD Nagar Police Station, following which a discussion between the principal and BJP representatives was finally held in the presence of law enforcement.

Speaking to media representatives, Principal Papri Das Sengupta clarified that the college staff had felt unsafe due to the unannounced and forceful entry of a group of agitated youths into her office. “The final decision regarding accommodating additional students lies with the Department of Higher Education. Once the government communicates their directive, the college will resume the admission process accordingly,” she added.

However, BJP leaders from Badharghat, Bardowali, and Suryamaninagar refuted allegations of creating chaos. They stated that the local population is putting immense pressure to ensure admission opportunities for all students of the area in Ramthakur College. “We were there to convey the genuine concerns of the people,” one Mandal leader said.

Meanwhile, today’s incident sparked fresh demands from nearby residents, who urged authorities to shift the college to a more peaceful location, citing repeated disturbances. “Such incidents are becoming frequent in this congested area,” a local resident commented.

The situation normalized following police intervention, but the events of the day have reignited debates over student admission capacity, security, and infrastructure issues at Ramthakur College.
