H.E. Mr. M. Riaz Hamidullah, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, has arrived in Tripura today on a significant four-day official visit aimed at strengthening cross-border cooperation and inspecting key infrastructure linkages between Bangladesh and the northeastern Indian state.
According to a revised schedule issued by the concerned department, the High Commissioner landed at M.B.B. Airport, Agartala on August 1 via Air India Express flight IX-1193. He was accorded a formal welcome and then proceeded to the State Guest House. Shortly afterward, he paid floral tributes at Albert Ekka Park, a site of historical and military importance.
His itinerary for the first day included a visit to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, the Agartala Integrated Check Post (ICP), and the Akhaura Land Port—key gateways of Indo-Bangladesh trade and transit. In the evening, he paid a courtesy visit to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura at the latter’s official residence, followed by a state dinner.
On August 2, the High Commissioner is scheduled to travel through the Agartala ICP to cross into Bangladesh via the Akhaura Land Port en route to Ashuganj, a major inland port. He will also visit the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Brahmanbaria for a luncheon meeting, before returning to Agartala by evening. Later that day, he is set to inspect the Nischintapur Railway Station, which is a key node of the under-construction Agartala–Akhaura rail link aimed at enhancing Indo-Bangla railway connectivity.
On August 3, the High Commissioner will call on the Governor of Tripura, after which he will head to Sabroom in South Tripura district. There, he will inspect the Sabroom Integrated Check Post and the Maitri Setu (Friendship Bridge), a critical trade and connectivity corridor linking Sabroom to Ramgarh in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Division.
He will return to Agartala in the evening and is scheduled to fly back to New Delhi on the same day.
The visit underlines the growing bilateral cooperation between India and Bangladesh, particularly in areas of connectivity, trade facilitation, and cultural ties. Tripura, sharing an 856-kilometer border with Bangladesh, has emerged as a pivotal state in the Indo-Bangla relationship, and visits such as these help further enhance people-to-people and institutional engagement.
