Sporadic Cases of Abnormal Leaf Fall Detected in Rubber Plantations Across Tripura: Rubber Board Begins Preventive Measures

The Rubber Board has confirmed the occurrence of Abnormal Leaf Fall, a fungal disease, in scattered rubber plantations in parts of Tripura, mainly in Gomati, Sepahijala, and West Tripura districts. The disease, which is characterized by premature shedding of leaves either green or after turning coppery red, has been linked to the recent spell of prolonged wet weather and persistently humid atmospheric conditions, ideal for fungal spread.

Abnormal Leaf Fall, if left unchecked, can significantly reduce latex yield in mature rubber trees. However, the Rubber Board has assured growers that the situation is under control and there is no need for panic. The disease can be effectively managed through timely prophylactic spraying of copper oxychloride on the foliage.

In response to the emerging situation, the Rubber Board has already initiated necessary steps to carry out spraying operations in the affected zones. Rubber growers are being urged to stay vigilant and report any signs of unusual leaf fall to the nearest Rubber Board office without delay.

“Growers noticing leaves falling in large numbers prematurely, whether still green or turned coppery red, should immediately inform Rubber Board officials. Early intervention is key, and the disease can be efficiently contained with standard spraying practices,” a senior Rubber Board official stated.

Rubber growers across Tripura are advised not to panic and to cooperate with the Board’s field teams to ensure swift action and to safeguard plantation health and latex production.
