Education department’s inquiry team visit school to investigate the background of student Trisha Majumder’s suicide

The controversy over the sensational death by suicide of Trisha Majumder (16), a student of class X of Barpathari Sonarpur HS school in Belonia subdivision has taken a new turn with the inquiry team constituted by the education department visiting the school and speaking to teachers and students of the school yesterday to unearth the mystery behind the suicide of Trisha. It was about two weeks ago that Trisha Majumder had attempted suicide by consuming toxic pesticide at home after being unnecessarily insulted and humiliated by the school teacher and accused Bina Patari . She finally breathed her last while under treatment in Agartala’s GBP hospital.

Since the suicide by the meritorious student Trisha following insult and humiliation heaped on her by the school teacher Bina Patari had triggered a controversy the education department constituted a three member inquiry team comprising Lisa Datta Majumder, joint director, Kajal Kumar Bhowmik , OSD and Sudip Sarkar, OSD. The team visited the school in Belonia yesterday and spoke to the head master , managing committee members of the school, accused teachers Bina Das Patari and class mates of deceased Trisha Majumder. According to sources from Bar Pathari the class mates of Trisha confided to the inquiry team that Trisha had been badly insulted and humiliated by accused teacher Bina Patari and , being a truthful meritorious student, she could not stomach this and this is the reason why she committed suicide.

The head of the inquiry team Lisa Datta Majumder told media persons that they had gathered all relevant information and they will submit a detailed report to the director of secondary education for follow-up action. She also said that the class mates of Trisha had demanded punitive action against the accused teacher Bina Patari but the matter will be finally decided by the higher authority in the education department.
