One-Day seminar on “5 Years of NEP: Reflecting Together, Shaping Tomorrow” held at Women’s College, Agartala

A One-day seminar titled “5 Years of NEP: Reflecting Together, Shaping Tomorrow” was successfully held today at Matangini Pritilata Hall, Women’s College, Agartala. The event, organized under the banner of ABRSM (Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh), marked a significant moment in commemorating five years of the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020.
The Inaugural Session began with the warm reception of esteemed guests, lighting of the auspicious lamp, and offering of ‘Pushpanjali’. Dr. Debashis Roy Chowdhury, General Secretary of ABRSM Tripura (Mahavidyalaya Shiksha), in his introductory remarks, highlighted ABRSM’s extensive contribution to the educational landscape of India. He announced that today’s seminar is a part of 1,000 similar events to be conducted across the country throughout the year to celebrate the five-year journey of NEP, 2020.In his welcome address, Shri Tirtharam Reang, President of ABRSM Tripura (Mahavidyalaya Shiksha), emphasized the role ABRSM has been playing in enhancing the educational standards of Tripura in alignment with the vision of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He strongly urged the Hon’ble Education Minister to expedite the recruitment process of 201 Assistant Professors across Tripura’s colleges and advocated for a raise in GDP allocation for education beyond the current 6%. Dr Dhirendra Debnath, Sangathan Mantri, ABRSM Tripura Prant, in his address, stressed the holistic and transformative role of NEP 2020. He asserted that the policy aims to remove westernized stigmas that have long been attached to India’s post-independence education system and reclaim the nation’s own pedagogical heritage.
The Hon’ble Chief Guest, Shri Kishore Barman, Minister Higher Education, Panchayat, and General Administration (Political), Government of Tripura, delivered the keynote address. He reiterated that the goal of NEP 2020 is to elevate Bharat to the status of Vishwaguru. He emphasized that Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat, as envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, can truly be realized only when each and every citizen of the nation is empowered through education.He pointed out that the real strength of a nation lies not in its infrastructure but in the education of its citizens—especially women. Referring to the western influence on India’s education system, he underlined that NEP 2020 marks a radical shift towards a Bharat-centric education model rooted in Indian civilization and cultural values. He also shared statistical data showcasing the remarkable growth of educational institutions in India over the past 11 years and elaborated on the various initiatives undertaken by the Government of India to strengthen the education sector.The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Mun Mun Das Biswas, Pramukh, Shaikshik Prakoshtha ABRSM Tripura and Programme Coordinator, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries, resource persons, participants, and organizers for their invaluable support in making the session a success.
The Technical Sessions began after a short tea break and featured three invited lectures: Dr. Abhijit Chanda, Associate Professor, IASE Kunjaban, Agartala; Dr. Arjun Gope, Associate Professor, Ramthakur College, Agartala and Saha Pramukh, ABRSM Purbottor khestra; Prof. Sabyasachi Dasgupta, Head of Department, Forestry and Biodiversity, Tripura University. Each speaker delved into key themes such as the historical background, core reflections, and visionary objectives of NEP 2020. They examined how the policy could reshape the future of education in India, aligning it with the nation’s cultural ethos while promoting innovation and inclusivity.The final vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Anirban Bhattacharya, Joint Coordinator, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, resource persons, faculties for making the seminar a grand success.The event concluded with ‘Rashtravadnan’.
