Tension gripped Taksapara village under Tulashikhar Block in Tripura's Khowai district on Sunday after workers of the Tipra Motha party, an ally of the BJP, allegedly launched an attack on BJP supporters during the broadcast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 'Mann Ki Baat' program.
The incident occurred in the Asharambari Assembly Constituency, which is represented by Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma. According to local sources, a group of BJP workers and supporters had assembled at the residence of a party worker, Asharam, to collectively listen to the Prime Minister’s monthly radio address today morning. During the event, Tipra Motha supporters reportedly arrived in groups and attacked the gathering.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the Tipra Motha workers not only assaulted the BJP supporters but also attempted to lock them inside the house while the program was being played. In the ensuing violence, around six to seven people were injured. The attackers also vandalized several vehicles belonging to BJP leaders and supporters.
Local residents helped shift the injured to nearby hospitals. The sudden violence has sparked widespread concern among BJP ranks, who have demanded immediate action.
