The chief minister Dr Manik Saha today rubbished allegations of deprivation of funds to ADC by the state, raised by opposition ‘Tipra Motha’. Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a programme in Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan Dr Saha said that allegations of fund deprivation to ADC as raised by some quarters were not correct. “We have been sanctioning funds to ADC as demanded by them , otherwise how this autonomous body is running ; lot of developments programmes are being implemented there by the state government also” said Manik . He asserted that a major project worth Rs 1400 crores externally aided by the World Bank is being implemented in the ADC areas over and above the huge funds being spent by the tribal welfare department of the state government. Dr Saha today was the chief guest in an official programme to felicitate the successful tribal students who performed well in the exams held by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) from hostels run by NGOs.
The chief minister said that the state government’s priority for development work in ADC areas is the education and health sectors. “For this purpose we are working to upgrade the standard of schooling and strengthening the health infrastructure in the ADC; besides, developing a good road infrastructure within the ADC area is also a priority sector for us ; we are hoping to make the ADC here the best in entire northeast” said Manik.
The chief minister’s statement assumes significance in view of the allegations of deprivation made by ‘Tipra Motha’ recently in Delhi where the leaders of the party had gone to meet the union home minister to discuss the issue of implementation of the tripartite accord. Without naming the ‘Tipra Motha’ party and its leaders the chief minister refuted all the allegations.
