In a significant move aimed at accelerating reforms within the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), former IAS officer and ex-Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the ADC, C.K. Jamatia, has been appointed as a member of the newly formed Administrative Reforms Committee in TTAADC. Known for his experience and administrative acumen, Jamatia’s appointment is seen as a major step toward improving governance and project implementation in the tribal council.
Addressing a press conference at the main administrative building auditorium on July 25, Jamatia brought to light the grim status of the Smoke House Construction Project, an initiative meant to build 50 smoke houses across the TTAADC region.
He revealed that although Rs. 37.5 crore was sanctioned for the project, only Rs.7 crore has been released so far, leaving as many as 22 projects incomplete and the remaining stuck in limbo.
“Out of the total sanctioned amount, Rs. 10 crore falls under the Subarna Jayanti Tripura Nirman Yojana. However, the Autonomous District Council has received only Rs. 7 crore. The remaining Rs. 30.5 crore is yet to be released,” said Jamatia.
Expressing concern over the delay, he urged the state government to take immediate action and transfer the pending funds to the ADC. “Unless the full amount is released without delay, the implementation will suffer further setbacks,” he warned.
This statement from the former bureaucrat underscores the growing frustration within the tribal council over bottlenecks in fund disbursement for crucial rural infrastructure projects. His inclusion in the reforms committee is expected to bring administrative insights and policy recommendations to address such delays and enhance governance efficiency within the council.
The Smoke House project is considered vital for supporting rural livelihoods and improving post-harvest processing for tribal rubber farmers. The delay in fund release threatens not just project execution but also the livelihood security of hundreds of tribal families.
With Jamatia now serving on the Administrative Reforms Committee, stakeholders hope that such critical issues will be prioritized and addressed through effective coordination between the state and the ADC.
