The Higher Education Department of the Government of Tripura has suspended Dr. Abhijit Nath, Assistant Professor of Ramthakur College, West Tripura District, following allegations of illegal and unauthorized activities related to the ongoing undergraduate admission process for the academic session 2025–26.

According to an official order dated July 23, 2025, the action was initiated after a news report published in local media on July 19 claimed Dr. Nath's involvement in admission malpractice. The report and preliminary findings from the college indicated that some students, whose names were not on the official admission list, were found with fee cards bearing forged signatures of college authorities.

The College Principal's submission revealed that Dr. Nath had taken 50 fee cards from the college office without authorization and kept them at his residence. He later returned only 28 cards without providing an explanation for the remaining ones. It was further confirmed that a total of 120 fee cards had been taken by Dr. Nath, and 69 cases of unauthorized admissions were identified.

The Government has termed the case as "a serious malpractice, forgery, and gross violation of admission norms." As per Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, Dr. Abhijit Nath has been placed under suspension with immediate effect. During this period, his headquarters will remain at Agartala, and he has been instructed not to leave the station without prior permission.

The order was signed by Raval Humeendra Kumar, IAS, Special Secretary, Education (Higher) Department, Government of Tripura.
