The omission of the important subjects of Education , Sociology and Philosophy by the Teachers Recruitment Board of Tripura (TRBT) from the purview of recruitment of post-graduate teachers (PGT) has created serious resentment among qualified students and aspirants for recruitment. Recently the state government has given clearance for recruitment of altogether 915 PGTs on various subjects for schools in the state. But reportedly there will be no recruitment to posts of PGTs for Education, Sociology and Philosophy even though there are lot of eligible candidates for these subjects. No confirmation on the matter could be obtained but sources in TRBT said that there will be no recruitment for these subject teachers.
Speaking on this sources among aspirant students said that Education, Sociology and Philosophy are taught as important subjects at the college and university level and there is always recruitment of college and university teachers on these subjects. Hence there is no reason why teachers for these subjects should not be recruited. “Already Education as a subject has been dropped from the Vidyajyoti schools as part of the so-called new education policy even though Education is very important as a subject for overall management of the education system; specially when a student does MBA after obtaining a masters or honours degree in education he becomes a prize catch in the recruitment market for high and rich private educational institutions” said a qualified student.
He also pointed out that importance of philosophy and sociology as subjects of study can not be overstated. “ A nation without youths educated or trained in sociology or philosophy can not be conceived but the TRBT authority and the education department of the state government seem to think otherwise; this is a blow not only to prospects of employment but also to the cause of holistic education and opportunities ; there is also the question of freedom of choice” said the qualified student on condition of anonymity. He added that qualified students of these subjects will make a representation to the state government and education department to press for recruitment of teachers for Education, Sociology and Philosophy.
