A delegation from the TIPRA Motha Party, led by its founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, met with top officials of the Election Commission of India (ECI) in New Delhi today. The primary agenda of the meeting was to press for the urgent implementation of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tripura.
Following the meeting, Pradyot Kishore took to his social media platforms to issue a strong statement, expressing deep concern over the issue of illegal migration affecting Tripura and other parts of the Northeast.
> "Illegal migration is affecting our state and Northeast, and today if we don’t identify illegal voters there will be no tomorrow for our next generation," Pradyot warned in his message.
He emphasized that identifying illegal voters is not just a political issue but a matter of securing the future of indigenous communities and the demographic integrity of the region.
Pradyot also informed that the ECI has assured the TIPRA Motha delegation that Special Intensive Revision will be conducted across the country, including Tripura. This assurance comes amid rising demands from several tribal and regional groups to clean up electoral rolls and verify the citizenship status of voters in border states like Tripura, where concerns about cross-border migration have long persisted.
The TIPRA Motha Party, which has been vocal about the rights and protection of the indigenous Tiprasa people, views this electoral revision as a crucial step in safeguarding the political and demographic interests of the state. The party has been demanding greater constitutional protection and recognition for the tribal population through the implementation of their 'Greater Tipraland' vision.
The delegation's visit marks another chapter in TIPRA Motha's continued efforts to engage with central institutions on issues critical to the future of Tripura and the Northeast as a whole.
Further developments on the implementation timeline of SIR in Tripura are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
