In a noteworthy address during the commemorative programme, Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury urged members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly to take inspiration from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He lauded Vajpayee’s parliamentary grace and the way he raised public interest issues with wisdom and restraint.
Chaudhury stressed the importance of dignity and discipline in legislative debates. He pointed out that true legislative excellence comes from learning how to voice the concerns of the people effectively, regardless of political alignment. He encouraged young legislators to learn from past parliamentary stalwarts, including leaders from the Left and other political backgrounds.
“No matter whether you represent the treasury bench or opposition, raising pertinent issues with prudence is an art known to only a handful,” said the veteran former Communist Party MP.
The entire commemorative event stood out not only for recalling Tripura's democratic history but also for setting a hopeful tone for responsible and mature legislative conduct in the future.
