Reconstruction of famous ‘Meher Kalibari’ on Pragati road recommences

The reconstruction of Agartala’s famous ‘Meher Kalibari’ along the Pragati Road has late commenced with financial assistance from the AMC Mayor and MLA of the area Dipak Majumder. Sources from the locality said that in the monsoon season of the year 2023 the temple of ‘Meher Kalibari’ had collapsed under the impact of a mighty storm and the image of ‘Maa Kali’ was shifted by local people to a safe place. But the construction of a pucca temple could not start because of resource constraint as no body had come forward to aid the project.
The local people then approached the new MLA of the area Dipak Majumder who came forward with financial assistance on his own and work began late last year. The work is now in progress and today the AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder visited the site of the temple in its old place and expressed his satisfaction over the progress made. During his visit Dipak Majumder was accompanied by the Ram Nagar ‘Mandal’ president Amitabha Bhattacharjee and leading residents of the area. The local people thanked the Mayor for his contribution to the task of construction of the temple and the Mayor Dipak Majumder also asked them to ensure that sanctity of the temple is maintained at all costs.
Meanwhile, the Mayor this morning visited the Lake Chaumuhuni market also to see the functioning of the busy market and whether the businessmen are facing any problem. During his visit a lady shop-keeper Swapna De Debnath complained to the Mayor that a gang of mafia elements had not been allowing her to reopen her shop. The Mayor Dipak Majumder assured her that he would arrange for reopening her shop within no time.
