Clash in Kailashahar Over Remarks Against Hospital Doctors; Several Injured

Tension flared in Kailashahar following controversial remarks allegedly made by contractor Abdul Mannan against doctors of Unakoti District Hospital. Additional security forces have been deployed across the town to prevent further unrest.

According to senior contractor Tera Mia, local authorities recently shut down Mannan’s illegally operated bituminous mixing plant near the hospital after complaints from doctors. Following the closure, Mannan allegedly threatened the doctors with dire consequences.

On Tuesday afternoon, a group of local contractors gathered outside Mannan’s residence in the Hawkers' Corner area, demanding an explanation for his remarks. Failing to locate him at home, they began chanting slogans. When Mannan returned, he allegedly attacked the group with a sharp weapon and sticks, leading to a scuffle.

A woman from a neighbouring house was injured, while Tera Mia and his son sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Unakoti District Hospital. Mannan was also injured during the clash and hospitalised.

Tensions escalated inside the hospital as supporters of both sides clashed again, prompting police intervention. Later in the evening, Tera Mia’s condition deteriorated, and he was referred for advanced treatment.

Despite the violence, no formal complaint had been filed with Kailashahar police by 5 PM. Tera Mia has directly blamed Abdul Mannan for the attack. The incident has left Kailashahar in a state of high alert, with police closely monitoring the situation.
