Ayushman Bhava Vandana Card: Free Rs. 5 Lakh Health Insurance for All Senior Citizens Aged 70 and Above in Tripura

In a major boost to healthcare accessibility for the elderly, the Government of India has launched the ‘Ayushman Bhava Vandana Card’ under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), providing free annual health insurance coverage of Rs. 5 lakh to all senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their income group, caste, or social category.
This path-breaking initiative ensures that every Indian citizen aged 70 or above is now entitled to receive quality medical care at empanelled hospitals without worrying about financial burdens. The scheme is designed to offer comprehensive coverage for secondary and tertiary healthcare services.
Key Features of the new health insurance scheme is that all Indian citizens who are 70 years or older, including those residing in Tripura, are eligible. And every registered beneficiary will be get insurance Coverage up to Rs. 5 lakh per year under AB PM-JAY for hospitalization and treatment. No income certificate, ration card, or category verification is required, only Aadhaar is sufficient for enrolment. Senior citizens already covered under private health insurance, CGHS, ESI, or other schemes can also opt for this coverage. Beneficiaries will receive a new and independent 'Ayushman Bhava Vandana' health card.
Eligible citizens can register through the official website abpmjay.tripura.gov.in or by downloading the Ayushman Bharat App from the Google Play Store.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve access to healthcare for thousands of elderly citizens across Tripura and the rest of the country. The state health authorities are also expected to run awareness and outreach drives to ensure maximum enrollment under this scheme.
This move underscores the government’s commitment to universal health coverage and dignified aging, offering financial protection and peace of mind to one of society's most vulnerable age groups.
