Rattled by evil political omen all around, Bangldesh’s beleaguered chief advisor of the illegitimate interim government Md Yunus seems to have at last waked up to the reality of towering Indian presence on all three sides of his lawless country’s border and the high price he will have to pay for deliberately antagonizing the larger neighbour. Gone are the days of anti-India bluster and rhetoric as Yunus seeks a thaw with efforts to break the ice. As part of the diplomatic move Yunus sent a consignment of tasty and juicy mangoes to Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha a few days for Tripura is bordered on three sides by ‘Momin’ Bangladesh. But quite significantly Yunus has dispatched a consignment of 1 thousand KGs of delicious mangoes to prime minister Narendra Modi ostensibly as a goodwill gesture. According to Bangladesh’s ‘Godi Momin’ media the consignment was sent through a private courier company and not through the Bangladesh high commission office in Delhi but this requires confirmation as dispatch by private courier service in stead of normal diplomatic channel may end up further hardening India’s position.

Be that as it may, sources from across the border said that the consignment containing 1,000kg of renowned mango variety "Haribhanga" will reach New Delhi on Monday, an official at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi reportedly said. The mangoes will also be shared with dignitaries from the Indian prime minister's office, diplomats and other officials within the next couple of days as part of a friendly exchange between the two neighbouring countries.

The interim government is also sending mangoes to West Bengal’s ‘Momina’ Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.Chief Adviser Prof Yunus on Thursday sent 300kg of the popular Haribhanga mangoes as a gift to the chief minister of India’s Tripura state and other dignitaries. The mangoes were sent through Akhaura land port around 5:15pm on Thursday, packed in 60 cartons.

Every year, the Bangladesh government sends seasonal gift items to Tripura’s state government and key individuals. In return, Tripura sends Bangladesh its famed and juicy Queen variety pineapples as goodwill gifts. This year’s mango gift was arranged by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and delivered through an exporter.

Officials handed over the consignment to representatives of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala. This form of outreach, often referred to as "mango diplomacy", was also practiced under previous administration and this continues to serve as a symbol of goodwill and exchange.
