Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Ratan Nath, today visited the agro-processing and packaging center at Kumarghat, which specializes in the scientific processing of locally grown pineapple, baby corn, and bamboo shoot (bashkarul). During his visit, the Minister closely observed the advanced packaging procedures being implemented at the facility and expressed his admiration for the use of modern techniques.
The Minister was briefed in detail about the nutritional qualities and commercial value of these agricultural products by the officials at the center. He took keen interest in understanding how such produce is preserved, packaged, and made market-ready in a hygienic and efficient manner.
Officials also informed Minister Nath about the current demand and supply trends of these products, both within the state and outside. They highlighted how these processed items are gaining popularity due to their quality and long shelf life.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Minister Ratan Nath said he was highly impressed with the level of technology being used and the potential such processing centers hold for boosting Tripura’s agri-based economy. He expressed confidence that Tripura will soon be able to not only meet the demand for these packaged products in the state and across India, but also export them to international markets, thereby achieving greater profitability for farmers and entrepreneurs.
The visit reflects the government’s commitment to promoting value addition in agriculture and enhancing income generation through agro-industrial growth in rural areas.
