Belonia (South Tripura): Almost every panchayat under Bharat Chandra Nagar Block in South Tripura's Belonia subdivision has been affected by severe flooding, with rising waters from the Muhuri River inundating homes and farmland.
Bharat Chandra Nagar Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Putul Pal Biswas, along with block officials, visited the flood-hit areas on Tuesday to assess the damage. Speaking to the media during the visit, she said that nearly every panchayat in the block has suffered losses, with NC Nagar, SC Nagar, and Sukanta Nagar being the worst affected.
“The water from the Muhuri River has entered homes, causing significant damage. So far, 20 families have taken shelter in relief camps set up across the block,” she stated.
In addition, landslides have disrupted road connectivity in areas such as North Bharat Chandra Nagar and Paikhola, further complicating relief efforts. Despite continuous rainfall, the Chairperson announced her intention to visit all affected panchayats personally to ensure proper assessment and coordination.
“A clear picture of the damage will emerge only after completing field inspections across the block,” Pal Biswas said.
