With a rapidly growing organic farming network and expanding export markets, Tripura is positioning itself as a major player in India’s organic produce sector. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday outlined the state’s ambitious “farm to fork” model aimed at transforming Tripura into a hub for high-value organic exports.
Tripura has already brought over 25,000 hectares under certified organic cultivation, and the formation of 53 organic Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) has given local growers a structured platform to scale up production. The state is focusing on crops with high market potential—Queen pineapple, bird’s eye chilli, sticky and aromatic rice, turmeric, ginger, and millet, among others.
“Our Queen pineapple is internationally known for its sweetness and holds a GI tag. Sticky rice, too, has carved a niche. We want to capitalize on this momentum with a fully integrated value chain,” Nath said.
Tripura’s organic produce is now reaching major cities across India, and international exports have gained traction, with consignments sent to Dubai, Oman, and Dhaka. Over the past three years, the state exported nearly 1,300 MT of organic produce. A government transport subsidy of Rs 5,000 per MT is also helping growers tap into national and global markets.
