In view of the acute shortage of experienced senior-level officers in the state administration, the Governor of Tripura has approved yet another extension of re-employment for Shri Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty, IAS (Retired), on a contractual basis. His term has been extended for a further period of six months with effect from August 8, 2025.

This marks the fourth time Shri Chakravarty’s term has been extended after his retirement from regular service as an IAS officer, reflecting the state government’s continued dependence on his experience and administrative capability in crucial departments.

The extension has been granted in the interest of public service, at a time when the state is facing an acute crisis of experienced senior-level officers. As per the official order, Shri Chakravarty will continue to serve as Secretary to the Government of Tripura, and will hold charge of the following departments: Education (Youth Affairs & Sports), Information & Cultural Affairs and General Administration (Confidential & Cabinet). Additionally, he will also continue as Secretary to the Chief Minister of Tripura until further orders.

The decision was formalized through a government notification issued as a continuation of earlier Notification No. F.35(53)-GA(P&T)/90(P-I), dated May 13, 2025. The latest order, dated July 8, 2025, has been signed by Jai Datta, Under Secretary to the Government of Tripura. This repeated extension underscores Shri Chakravarty’s vital role in Tripura’s administration and highlights the current challenges faced by the government in filling top-level bureaucratic posts with adequately experienced officers.
