Tripura Chief Secretary JK Sinha Urges Newly Recruited Engineers to Uphold Integrity and Reject Unethical Practices

In a landmark initiative to strengthen Tripura’s public infrastructure and administrative efficiency, the Chief Secretary of Tripura, Shri Jitendra Kumar Sinha, IAS today inaugurated an intensive five day induction training programme for the newly appointed Graduate Junior Engineers (Grade I) of the Public Works Department (PWD). The programme is being conducted jointly by the State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD), the Institution of Engineers (India), Tripura State Centre (TSC), and the School of Logistics, Communication & Waterways, AD Nagar.

The inauguration ceremony took place at 10:30 AM in the auditorium of Pundit Nehru Complex, IE(I)-TSC, Agartala, in the presence of prominent dignitaries including Dr. Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee, Chairman of IE(I)-TSC; Shri Arupba Roy, IAS, Secretary of Finance and Agriculture; and Dr. Susanta Dutta, Head of School of Logistics, Communication & Waterways, SIPARD.

In his keynote address, Chief Secretary Shri Jitendra Kumar Sinha congratulated the 193 newly recruited engineers and urged them to become change agents in public service by adopting the highest standards of integrity. “Engineers are nation builders,” he said. “You must reject wrongdoings and unethical practices and become symbols of a new era that values honesty, accountability, and service to the people.”

He reminded them that engineers play a pivotal role in shaping infrastructure and societal well-being. He urged the trainees to act as “intelligent managers” who remain fearless in rejecting unethical demands and committed to delivering quality outcomes.

He also encouraged the adoption of modern engineering technologies to ensure effective and transparent project implementation.

He called on engineers not to bend under pressure or unethical directives and to remain steadfast in public service values.

Dr. Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee echoed the Chief Secretary’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of public trust. “Every bridge, road, or building you construct is made from the hard-earned money of the people. Let this training be your launchpad, question deeply, learn relentlessly, and practice ethically,” he stated.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Susanta Dutta, who explained the broad scope of the training. The programme covers engineering ethics, contract and work management, disaster readiness, site-level problem-solving, and more, equipping the young engineers to effectively serve in the field.

Prof. (Dr.) Priyanath Das, Honorary Secretary of the Institution of Engineers (India), Tripura State Centre (TSC), delivered the vote of thanks.

To accommodate all 193 newly recruited engineers, the training programme will be held in four batches throughout the month of July. SIPARD continues to play a vital role in capacity building among Tripura's government functionaries by organizing regular training sessions on critical administrative and technical subjects.
