Tripura Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha on Monday met the Director General of Police (DGP) to raise concerns over the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the state and the increasing attacks on opposition party members.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Saha alleged that miscreants backed by the ruling party were continuously attacking opposition leaders across the state. "In most cases, police personnel are present at the scene, yet they remain inactive. This reflects the complete collapse of law and order in the state," he said.

Saha further claimed that the BJP had lost the trust of the people, and sensing the erosion of their support base, the ruling party was resorting to violence and intimidation. “The BJP has lost ground in Tripura. They are using terror as a last resort,” he added.

He also alleged that incidents of vandalism at party offices, destruction of motorcycles, and disruption of political meetings had become a daily occurrence. “What’s more alarming is that these attacks are taking place in broad daylight and often in front of police personnel, who are failing to intervene,” he said.

Saha also highlighted the slow pace of investigation into the murder of BJP worker Ashish Das. He submitted a letter to the DGP demanding the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter thoroughly and deliver justice.

It should be noted here that Ashish Das was killed at Surma assembly constituency under Kamalpur sub-division centering a land dispute.
