In a move that has raised serious public concern, authorities have reportedly blocked a key government road in front of the Raj Bhavan, allegedly to avoid disturbing the sleep of the Hon’ble Governor of Tripura. While this high security restriction has been swiftly implemented, the rest of the capital city reels under daily disruption caused by political protests and rallies, ironically allowed to continue freely.
Throughout the past month, almost every day has seen political parties taking to the streets with protest rallies, demonstrations, or processions. The constant agitation has severely affected public life in Agartala, with normal pedestrian movement becoming increasingly difficult. Citizens complain that walking through the city has become a challenge, especially for the elderly, women, and children. Even ambulances face difficulty navigating the chaotic traffic caused by the unregulated rallies.
Despite the worsening situation, neither the Tripura Police nor the Tripura High Court appears to have taken any serious steps to address the disruption. Today, a protest rally organized by the Tipra Motha party led to complete traffic paralysis across the city, further frustrating the residents.
Public anxiety is growing, as incidents of violence and clashes at rally venues have become more frequent. With the next state election still three years away, people fear the situation may worsen if unchecked. Many are questioning whether Agartala is on the verge of political instability.
Citizens are also expressing frustration at the perceived double standards: while the Governor is shielded from the slightest noise through road closures, ordinary people must endure daily chaos. Moreover, the Governor has remained silent on the escalating tension and disturbances caused by these rallies.
Concerned residents are now asking, if the administration can act swiftly to ensure peace and silence around the Raj Bhavan, why can’t it act with the same urgency to ensure public safety and law and order across the capital?
