When attempts were going on to eradicate Malaria from the state, a 7-year-old child Sukrai Reang died allegedly due to the negligence of the local Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA). The child was shifted to Teliamura Hospital in a precarious condition on Sunday afternoon and the blood test confirmed that he was suffering from Malaria. The doctors referred him to GB Hospital but the child turned unresponsive on the way and the Ambulance returned to Teliamura Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Family members said the child had been suffering from fever for the last 5/6 days and they repeatedly contacted the local ASHA worker, who did not respond. They said the life could have been saved if a timely treatment had been administered. It was not possible due to the non-cooperation by the ASHA worker.
