The Bangladeshis seem to be becoming increasingly unpopular like their Pakistani brethren on foreign soil where they have perforce to go for earning livelihood because of their dubious activities. At a time when a drive for deporting illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators from India is on , the forced repatriation of three Bangladeshis from Malaysia has triggered a furore in the country. It is widely suspected that the three repatriated Bangladeshis had links with an Islamic militant group though the Malaysian government has not spelt out the reasons for forced repatriation. Responding to public outcry over the issue the home affairs advisor to the interim government Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today that the repatriated Bangladeshis ‘are not militants’.

"They're not militants... their visas had simply expired," he said while talking to reporters following an inspection of the Export Cargo Village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The adviser said there are no militants in Bangladesh and those sent back from Malaysia have no links to militancy either. He said there have been no reports of militancy in the country over the past ten months. But Jahangir Alam Chowdhury’s statement is being taken with a pinch of salt because the statement on the issue made by the top Malaysian police official has clarified that the three repatriated Bangladeshis were found to have been indoctrinating youths in militant ideology.

Apart from this, the Bangladeshis in general along with the Pakistanis have made themselves unpopular and untrustworthy in almost all countires they go and try to settle down. Sources from Bangladesh said that last in the international conference on environment held in Baku , capital of Azerbaizan, the jambo Bangladeshi delegation of 64 had cut a sorry figure because of their uncouth behaviour and discourteous bearing. But this did not become an issue as Azerbaizan had hosted merely a conference and did not care to make this an issue, sources said.
