Many from Ompinagar assembly constituency joined the Congress

Congress achieved a major gain when over two hundred people of Ampinagar assembly constituency belonging to different parties defected and embraced the party flag with a promise to serve the party for a better tomorrow of the state. Three senior leaders of the IPFT, TIPRA Motha, and BJP accompanied the Ampinagar Block Congress Committee president, Pinu Debbarmas in the Agartala Congress Bhawan and took the tricolor from the PCC President Asish Kumar Saha.

Welcoming the newcomers, Asish Saha said we are delighted to welcome them. He said many people who were misguided by the ruling coalition partners are realizing their mistake and returning to Congress. He said it is a good sign and asserted that the number would increase in the coming days.

Among the newcomers, the Pabitra Mohin Jamatia was a candidate for IPFT in the last election, while Subal Debbarma contested for the BJP. Prominent TIPRA Motha leader Panchasadhan Jamatia also defected with them and joined Congress. The newcomers said they have decided to join Congress as they realised that it is the only party that works for the betterment of the people.
