Youth sentenced to life imprisonment for killing elderly lady

Angshuman Debbarma, District and Session Judge of Dharmanagar, sentenced one Sanjoy Ghosh (36) for killing an elderly lady six years ago at East Hurua Village under Kadamtala Police Station in Dharmanagr. Delivering the verdict on Monday, the judge described it as a heinous crime. He also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 or six months more imprisonment.
The 65-year-old lady Kanchanbala Nath used to stay alone in the house. Taking advantage of her loneliness Sanjoy Ghosh entered her house on 19th July 2019 and snatched away two of her earrings. Her grandson Biswajit Debnath went to the village on the next morning and filed a case. After the preliminary investigation, police arrested Sanjoy from Sanicherra village under Churaibari Police Station based on solid evidence, and a charge sheet was filed. The judge delivered the verdict after a long hearing when a total of 20 witnesses were examined.
