In a politically charged administrative reshuffle, Tarit Kanti Chakma, IAS, has been transferred from his post as District Magistrate & Collector of Gomati District and appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM). The move comes amidst allegations of an unscheduled and unauthorized meeting with Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, which reportedly irked senior officials in the state government.

Although the transfer is seen as a calculated move to pacify Tipra Motha’s leadership and maintain political balance, the wave of public sentiment across Gomati District today told a different story. From government officers and employees to journalists and citizens at large, nearly every section of society came forward to bid an emotional farewell to one of the most admired District Magistrates the district has seen.

Throughout the day, one after another, various institutions and organizations organized heartfelt farewell events for Chakma. The DM’s Office, Medical Department, TRLM staff, Zilla Parishad, and even the Udaipur Press Club stood united in their appreciation and gratitude for his dedicated service.

At the DM Office farewell, senior officers and staff lauded Chakma’s visionary leadership, administrative diligence, and unwavering commitment to the development of Gomati. “Your presence will be missed, but your impact will remain always,” said an emotional note from the officers and staff.

The health department hosted a separate program at the PRTI Hall in Udaipur, attended by the Chief Medical Officer of Gomati, the Medical Superintendent, and all Medical Officers in Charge. In his remarks, Chakma thanked the medical fraternity, journalists, and administrative officers for their cooperation in advancing the district’s health indicators. Notably, he highlighted achievements under Ayushman Bharat and TRLM, which earned Gomati District a nomination for the prestigious Prime Minister’s Excellence Awards.

Gomati district administration sources said that not only farewell given by his officers and journalists, TRLM, District team, DISE team, RD Team,TRLM Kakraban team, RSETI team and Revenue section team to the DM and Collector office of Gomati district administration also gave farewell separately to Shri Tarit Kanti Chakma.

The Gomati Zilla Parishad, led by Sabhadipati, also honored Chakma in a dignified farewell. The event recognized his instrumental role in strengthening local governance and rural development. Members acknowledged how his policies, accessibility, and ground-level engagement made a lasting difference.

The Udaipur Press Club too came forward with a farewell gathering, where journalists praised Chakma for upholding transparency and supporting the media’s role in public discourse. Chakma thanked them for highlighting the humane and progressive side of administration.

Across social media, tributes poured in from citizens, many of whom were emotionally attached to the outgoing DM. One widely circulated message read:

> "You are one of the most capable District Magistrates we have seen. Your contribution to Gomati is unmatched. Like a true guardian, you always stood by the people. Gomati will never forget you. May Maa Tripureshwari bless your path ahead. My deepest respect and regards to you."

While the circumstances of his transfer remain controversial, it is clear that Tarit Kanti Chakma leaves Gomati not under a cloud, but with a legacy of compassion, integrity, and transformative leadership. His new role at TRLM is expected to further benefit the state with his experience and dedication.

As Rinku Lather, IAS steps in as the new District Magistrate of Gomati, Chakma’s farewell serves as a powerful reminder of the bond between a people and a public servant who truly worked for them.
