Ahead of the 2026 civic body polls, the ruling BJP in Tripura has begun evaluating the performance of sitting corporators, especially in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). Party sources revealed dissatisfaction with several corporators who have failed to maintain public contact and deliver on basic issues.
“In 2021, BJP secured all AMC seats, even in strongholds of the opposition. But many corporators failed to meet public expectations, especially in southern parts of the city,” said a senior BJP leader. The party now plans to drop poor performers and field new faces.
Mayor Dipak Majumder has received direct complaints from residents about certain corporators’ incompetence, sources added. Issues like drinking water, drainage, and sanitation remain unresolved in many areas despite AMC-backed projects.
Meanwhile, speculation is growing over a potential leadership change at AMC. Majumder, seen as a strong public figure, may be elevated to a ministerial post in the state cabinet. Party leaders suggest he may not contest the upcoming polls, prompting a search for a new mayoral candidate.
